The Features of Steel Structure Lift Shaft

Steel structure lift shaft is a vertical shaft where steel structure can be lifted to the required height by means of a crane. It is an essential equipment of steel construction, which makes load transfer between the ground and the top floor.

The features of steel structure lift shaft includes:

1. Flexible molding/modular

Steel structure lift shafts are usually made up of several sections. Each section can be lifted by a crane and assembled with others in the shaft, so the overall height of the lift shaft can be easily changed.

2. Simple design and convenient installation

Considering that there are many hardware components (piles, column, beam etc.) in a lift shaft, steel structure is adopted as a framework for supporting load transfer and bearing capacity. Thereby, it only needs to design and assemble steel structure for lifting loads rather than concrete structure with many hardware components mentioned above. In addition, steel structure is much easier to assemble the components than concrete construction because there is no need to pour concrete or prepare site before installing steel structure.

3. Greater strength for a given weight

Concrete structure lift shafts usually need to be constructed to the lowest design standards, which requires high standards and specific knowledge for its manufacture. In addition, it is a complicated steel structure for its material usage. In contrast, a steel structure lift shaft usually has a smaller size as compared to concrete structure (large enough for human use), which can increase the productivity and reduce the cost of its manufacturing process.

Base section can be waterproof at the factory

The basic construction of the steel structure lift shaft is generally in the form of an inverted U shape and in some cases, a circular shape.

No dust painting required

This is because the basic construction of the steel structure lift shaft is in the form of an inverted U shape, which is generally hollow and has a relatively large size. Therefore, there is no need to paint steel structures before installation.

Steel structure lift shaft contains many metal components which have very small surface contact with each other.
